Scripture Union Daily Guide For 23rd June 2021 – God’s Judgement Dramatized

Topic: God’s Judgement Dramatized

Opening Prayer: Grant me depth of insight, revelation and knowledge as I meditate on this passage, O Lord.

Scripture: Ezekiel 4: 1 – 17

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • Is there any warning for me to heed?

Ezekiel began his ministry with a sermon that declared God’s judgment using drama or artwork. Notice how he illustrates the coming judgment. What is the significance of dramatizing the siege and the eventual capturing of the city by Babylon? The iron plate (cf. cloud in Lamentation 3:43-44) represents the barrier between God and His people. Rebellion and disobedience can make God chase His people away and refuse to hear their prayers. Ezekiel was not allowed to move, symbolizing the fact that the people of Jerusalem would be imprisoned within the walls of the city. The small amount of food he was allowed to eat represented the normal ration provided to those living in a city under siege by enemy army. The food that was to be cooked over human excrement was a symbolic of Judah’s spiritual uncleanness. If there is a call to portray or dramatically show the sins of our nation, how many of us would be willing to do it? We need to pray for greater boldness in our witness.

Practice/Word Application
• Thought: Why are people going through all kinds of sufferings in Africa today (cf. vs.16-17). Our God’s anger is with the wicked daily.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Dear Lord, give me boldness to stand against the evils of my community and nation. • Pray for political leaders to know that power belongs to God and, therefore, be willing to work for and uphold free and fair electoral processes and systems.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with 1 Corinthians 15:58; Jer. 48-49; Phil. 1
